Description
Masala Dosa is one of the most iconic dishes in South Indian cuisine, originating from Karnataka and widely embraced across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. This dish features a crispy, golden dosa made from fermented rice and urad dal batter, filled with a mildly spiced potato masala.
The dosa is thin and crisp, while the filling is made from mashed potatoes sautéed with mustard seeds, curry leaves, turmeric, green chilies, and onions. The balance of crunch and softness, along with the mild spice, makes it a staple in both home kitchens and tiffin centers. It is traditionally served with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, and sambar.
Masala Dosa is not just a breakfast item but a comfort food across generations and regions, and remains a cultural symbol of South Indian tiffin in cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, and across the Indian diaspora in Vancouver, Brampton, and Regina.
